Medicsight Plc is a UK-headquartered research driven developer of computer-aided detection (CAD) and image analysis software for the medical imaging market, engaged in the development and commercialization of medical imaging software, which analyses Computer Tomography (CT) scans for the early detection and measurement of colon cancer polyps and lung cancer lesions. The Company is also engaged in the research and development of other medical software applications and devices with potential applications in the medical imaging, detection and diagnosis sectors. On June 28, 2007, Medicsight PLC acquired the entire share capital of Medicexchange PTY Ltd from Medicexchange (International) Ltd.
Medicsight's ColonCAD Product receives boost from colon cancer study
Medicsight (AIM: MDST), the image analysis software company, announced that a National US Computerised Tomography (CT) Colonography Trial had boosted the prospects of its ColonCAD Product.
The trial reported that CE Colonography can detect 90% of asymptomatic patients with colonic polyps or cancers of 10 millimetres and larger, and 78% of patients who had a polyp or cancer of 6 millimetres or larger.. The study looked at 2531 asymptomatic patients over the age of 50 who were at an average risk of developing colon cancer.
Medicsight stated that the results of the study are expected to lead to a greater adoption of CT colonography as a routine screening examination for colorectal cancer. Medicsight’s ColonCAD Product is targeted at this market.

“We are delighted with the results of this study, which confirms our belief in CTC as a non-invasive alternative to optical colonoscopy for the screening of colon cancer. The level of sensitivity that can be achieved for the detection of polyps is extremely high, and because of its non-invasive nature we believe there will be a greater uptake of this type of screening in the future for those at greatest risk of developing colon cancer. We predict that Medicsight’s ColonCAD product will be a direct beneficiary of this trend towards utilising CTC as the colon cancer screening modality of choice”
