888’s Dragonfish Enters South African JV

888 Holdings PLC (LSE: 888) said its subsidiary Dragonfish has signed an exclusive agreement with South African Tsogo Sun Gaming Group (TSG) to set up a joint venture in South Africa providing a licensed and regulated ‘sportsbook’ online service.

Dragonfish will provide TSG with the technological infrastructure for the joint venture, including games technology, payment processing systems, customer relationship management, online marketing and business analytics.
TSG has significant reach across a wide audience of people in South Africa, with average annual footfall across the group's seven casinos exceeding 21 million people, 888 said in a statement.

The joint venture will also add further value to the operations through the integration of member databases for joint marketing purposes. It will also integrate payment methods between TSGs land based casinos and the new online service.

The partnership is set to continue with the launch of casino, poker and bingo once a more developed regulatory regime is in place in South Africa.

Today’s deal represents a relatively new approach in 888’s growth strategy following the regulatory pressures the online gaming industry has suffered in recent years. In his statement this morning Dragonfish MD Gabi Campos emphasised the group’s focus on targeting operations with locally regulated markets.

“Dragonfish's technology infrastructure provides an excellent platform for partnerships with land based casinos.  This partnership is the first of many targeted at regulated markets, where Dragonfish's partners operate under local licenses and enjoy the benefits of such regulatory arrangement.”

Shares in 888 Holdings rose 1% in early trading this morning.
