Salt Lake Potash Ltd (ASX:SO4) has made several key executive appointments as it advances development of its Lake Way Sulphate of Potash (SOP) Project in Western Australia.

Shaun Day joins the company in the role of chief financial officer while Rowena Roberts and Mark Wilde will join the board as director – people, culture, heritage; and community and director – sales and markets.

The appointments will strengthen the construction and operations executive team after the company started pumping high-grade brine from the Williamson Pit into a commercial-scale SOP brine evaporation pond.

“Three high calibre executives"

Salt Lake Potash chief executive officer Tony Swiericzuk said it was an exciting time for Salt Lake Potash.

He continued: “I am extremely pleased we have been able to recruit another three high calibre executives who are all experts in their respective fields.

We are rapidly developing the Lake Way project and these most recent appointments complement the existing team and enable the company to further progress the key areas of financing, people and marketing.”

New appointments

Shaun Day will begin in the role of chief financial officer, a position he previously held with Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX:NST) where the company increased its market cap from $700 million to $8 billion.

Rowena Roberts will be responsible for overseeing the human resources, heritage and community relations with more than 25 years’ experience in people management, indigenous training and education, Aboriginal economic development and native title negotiations.

She has recently worked at Fortescue Metals Group (ASX:FMG), the Water Corporation and Sinosteel in the areas of people, culture and community relations.

Mark Wilde is an experienced senior sales and marketing executive with more than 30 years’ experience and his directorship will oversee SO4’s sales and marketing functions.

Recently Wilde was global sales director – SOP business unit for Tessenderlo Group, one of the three largest SOP producers outside of China.

In this role Wilde was responsible for the sales and marketing of 500,000 tonnes per annum of SOP.

Scoping study complete, BFS underway

SO4 is the owner of nine large salt lakes in the Northern Goldfields region of Western Australia.

The immediate focus is on the rapid development of the Lake Way Project, intended to be the first brine SOP production operation in Australia.

Results of a scoping study published in June indicated that Lake Way could produce 300,000 tonnes per year of premium-grade SOP with a mine life of 20 years.

Having completed a scoping study, SO4 is now undertaking a bankable feasibility study with completion targeted for quarter three 2019.
